Dr. Jamie Bhamra, Ophthalmologist, provides surgical and medical care for comprehensive ophthalmology patients and further specializes in cornea and external disease.
He attended the University of Calgary, graduating with a Medical Degree (MD) in 2003. Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Bhamra completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary. Post-graduate medical training in Ophthalmology was completed in both Canada and the United States. He completed his Ophthalmology residency training (FRCSC) in 2008 from the University of Ottawa Eye Institute.
In 2009, Dr. Bhamra obtained his fellowship training at the renown Proctor Foundation and University of California San Francisco, California, USA. Upon completing his fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, Refractive Surgery and Uveitis, Dr. Bhamra began practicing in Calgary in January 2010.
Dr. Bhamra enjoys an enthusiastic and keen interest in Cataract and Cornea Surgery. Meticulous, comprehensive and compassionate preoperative, surgical and postoperative care is enjoyed by all of Dr. Bhamra’s patients.
He offers the newest intraocular lens technology including standard, toric, multifocal and combination lens options to patients requiring cataract surgery. Dr. Bhamra offers many options for the best care of corneal patients including: penetrating keratoplasty (PKP), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), Descemets Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK) and Keratoprosthesis. To treat patients with Keratoconus and Keratoectasia, Dr. Bhamra performs corneal cross-linking procedures with the latest evidence based technologies. Dr. Bhamra also
performs and enjoys many ocular surface procedures. Pterygium surgery, corneal/conjunctival lesion removal, amniotic membrane grafting, various manual and automated keratectomies (and more!) are all part of his regular surgical practice.
He helps educate Ophthalmology Residents through the University of Calgary Ophthalmology Residency Training Program. Dr. Bhamra enjoys lecturing and teaching in seminars educating Family Physicians, Optometrists, Ophthalmic Assistants and many other eye care professionals.
International Ophthalmology is also intriguing to Dr. Bhamra. He has volunteered at eye camps and eye hospitals internationally. In 2008, he participated at the Srikiran Eye Hospital, Kakinada, India. In 2009, he volunteered at a medical and surgical eye camp in Vietnam. In 2011, he visited Kenya.
Dr. Jamie Bhamra is currently a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Canadian Medical Association, Frederick C. Cordes Eye Society, American Cataract and Refractive Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons, Canadian Society of Ophthalmology, Alberta Medical Association and the Ophthalmology Society of Alberta.
Dr. Jamie Bhamra is originally from beautiful Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. He enjoys living an active, healthy lifestyle through fitness training, bikram yoga, meditation, skiing and participating in competitive hockey and golf avidly. His wife and he enjoy traveling the world and take as many photos (self-proclaimed amateur photographers!) as possible. Running, video gaming and website operation and design are also all interests of Dr. Jamie Bhamra.
